Should You Order a Home Inspection when Purchasing a Home?

Los Angeles Realtor Wende Schoof answers the question of whether or not to order a home inspection when purchasing a home. You can watch the video or keep reading below.

Should I order a home inspection? Yes. My answer to that is a resounding yes. Absolutely, order a home inspection.  And more importantly, order a home inspection with a professional ASHI-approved inspector. So, that means someone who is certified in the field of home inspection. That will be someone who is an objective, well-qualified, expert observer on the conditions of the home. And that is who you want to be taking a look at this home on your behalf.

A lot of people think I am a contractor, or my brother-in-law is a contractor, or I’ve owned a lot of homes. So, I am pretty familiar with what is going on with the home in terms of conditions. That said, yes, that might be, but wouldn’t you agree that it is always good to get at least one more set of eyes on anything? Because a lot of times people will look at the same thing and see different things. And also, having an objective observer with a lot of experience in that particular field of inspecting properties, is going to yield you a more comprehensive overview of the condition of the property.

For most people, getting a property inspection is going to involve bringing someone in who’s going to be able to look at the parts of the home that they and their realtor haven’t really been able to see and so by that, I mean, the guts of the home, the plumbing system, the electrical system, and all those things that we’re really not going to be able to see by just walking through and taking a look at the home.

So, again, in case you did not catch that at the beginning, the answer to the question of should I order a home inspection is a resounding yes. And if you are not quite sure who to use for a home inspection, this again is where talking to your realtor is going to be really helpful. Most realtors, like myself, have several property inspectors that we’ve worked with a lot and we know that we can trust them and we can go to them for sound advice when wondering about the condition of a particular home that a buyer is interested in buying.
